Why do we all need to be discussing ovulation

Ovulation happens every month around the mid point in our cycle when our oestrogen hits its peak and luteinising hormone signals for the egg to be released from the follicle. It is a vital part and sign of women’s health and can often be over looked by our bleed and its importance forgotten about until we desire to conceive. At school we are taught about our menstruation cycles briefly but not about signs of ovulation. We worry about how our bleed will feel but don’t connect to the signs of ovulation. I want everyone with a womb space to be talking about it!

Reasons why I don’t think everyone is talking about ovulation?

~I personally feel a lot of it is down to the lack of education and fear created by society over avoiding pregnancy from such a young age and the belief we can get pregnant at anytime.

~Ovulation doesn’t cost us any time or money so we often don’t consider it until we want to get pregnant even then so many women don’t consider it because we have been taught to believe we could get pregnant at any point.

~So many of us have been on birth control, haven’t ovulated in forever so have no idea what this looks like yet we can still witness a variation of a bleed so this stays our focus.

~As our bleeds cause us most of our physical upsets we always tend to focus on them.

Reasons why we all need to be talking about ovulation as women..

~ Without ovulation a key reproductive hormone progesterone is not created or released. This is our anti anxiety hormone which our second half of our cycle creates the lining of our womb for possible implantation post ovulation.

~ Having balanced hormones it’s also critical for metabolism, bone health, cardiovascular health, sleep patterns, energy levels and our mood.

~ Ovulation is the key to fertility and conception, we only have a short window of opportunity (you really can’t get pregnant at any point) so knowing when we are ovulating is key for creating or avoiding a pregnancy.

~ Due to lovely oestrogen peaking ovulation boosts our mood, libido and energy levels, when we are able to track it we can make the most of this energy within our lives.

~ Tracking ovulation is another way of helping us work out what hormones are out of balance helping us to work towards rebalanced hormones, awakened fertility and over all a health of wealth.

~ it is a reflection of your overall health and well-being giving us insights of what’s happening within.

So whilst ovulation is critical for conception it also plays a huge role in so many aspects of our health.

Unlocking the magic of ovulation ~ key signs to watch out for to unlock your fertile window

~ Changes in cervical mucus: my favourite way to know during ovulation your cervical mucus will become clear and stretchy resembling egg whites.

~ Raise in basal body temperature: after ovulation you will typically see a slight increase in your basal body temperature this is due to the rise in progesterone.

~ More energy, heightened libido and more extreverted energy. The peak of oestrogen brings about your inner Beyoncé energy.

~ Mittelschmerz the Germany word for middle pain,it can occur when the follicle releases the egg, or be because the fluid released with the egg can cause slight irritation or from the muscles contracting as the eggs moves towards the uterus. It’s not always felt by everyone or in each cycle but if it does it should only bring mid discomfort and pass quickly.

Ovulation is such an abundant time in our cycles and knowing when it happens is so important for either avoiding a pregnancy or having the best chance of conceiving.

The more we educate ourselves about our cycles the more power we get back as women, the more control we have over our bodies and the more fertile we will become as a collective.
